Get Involved - The Fate of the Binsted Fete is in your hands!

The Binsted Village Fete is a much-loved local tradition, run entirely by volunteers. To keep it alive and thriving, we are looking for enthusiastic people to form a brand new organising committee.

Each role is important to the smooth running of the Fete, but no one is expected to do everything alone. The outgoing committee will be available to support you if needed, but there is plenty of room to bring in your own ideas.

We do ask for committed people who are willing to see each role through from planning to the big day (and the wrap-up afterwards), but by filling all of the job roles and working as a team, the time commitment required is very achievable.

Chair

  • What you’ll do: Oversee the organisation of the fete, keeping everything on track. Lead meetings, coordinate the committee, and act as the main point of contact. On the day, you’ll also act as MC and ensure things run smoothly.

  • Skills: Good communication and a bit of confidence in leading.

  • When: Mostly in the lead-up, with a key role on the day and at the AGM afterwards.

Marketing Coordinator

  • What you’ll do: Manage publicity for the fete – updating the website (Wix), designing & distributing posters, flyers and banners (Canva or PowerPoint) and overseeing social media posts (Insta and Facebook).

  • Skills: Basic design and digital skills – or just a willingness to learn!

  • When: Mainly in the lead-up and after the fete day, but also available to lend a hand on the fete day itself.

Stalls Coordinator

  • What you’ll do: Plan the layout and make-up of stalls. Manage the Fete Store & source additional equipment. Communicate with commercial stallholders and volunteers and ensure they’re set up on the day.

  • Skills: Organisational skills, communication and creativity (Canva or PowerPoint helpful for planning layouts).

  • When: Mostly in the lead-up and on the day.

Sponsorship & Raffle Prize Secretary

  • What you’ll do: Contact local sponsors and businesses to secure support for the fete, whether that’s financial contributions, raffle prizes, or dog show sponsorship. Keep a record of prizes, coordinate collection & manage the prize display. Manage raffle volunteers on the day.

  • Skills: Communication and confidence in asking for support.

  • When: Mostly in the lead-up and on the day.

Treasurer

  • What you’ll do: Manage the fete’s finances – keeping track of spending and income, maintaining simple spreadsheets, and producing the final accounts.

  • Skills: Comfortable with Excel or basic bookkeeping.

  • When: Before and after the fete.

Dog Show Coordinator

  • What you’ll do: Manage the Fun Family Dog Show, including contacting previous winners about returning trophies, liaising with sponsors, booking judges, and organising classes.

  • Skills: Good communication and a bit of physical energy on the day.

  • When: Lead-up and on the day.

Flower, Produce & Craft Show Coordinator

  • What you’ll do: Finalise the competition schedule, gather last year's winners trophies and organise engraving and cleaning, organise judges, and oversee entries on the day. This is one of the highlights of the fete and a great way to keep traditions alive.

  • Skills: Knowledge of flowers, baking or crafts is helpful, but not essential – organisation is key.

  • When: Lead-up and on the day.

Why Volunteer?

Being part of the Binsted Fete committee is hugely rewarding – you’ll meet new people, make a difference to the community, and help keep a wonderful village tradition alive. You don’t need to be an expert, just willing to give your time, share your ideas, and see your role through.

If no one steps forward, the Binsted Fete WILL NOT go ahead in 2026.

Holy Cross Church smaller.png

Holy Cross Church, Binsted

Holy Cross Church, Binsted is situated in the middle of the Village, close to the Primary School and the Wickham Institute. Back for another year, the Holy Cross Church team will be providing FREE face painting and children's crafts for your little ones to enjoy.

The current building dates from the 12th Century but it is believed there may have been an earlier Saxon church on or near the site.  Field Marshall Lord Montgomery, who was a regular worshipper at Holy Cross, is buried in the graveyard.
